Center seeks offers

Twp. supervisors asked by buyer to take new bids

CENTER TWP — Township officials will again seek bids on the former municipal building on Sunset Drive — this time at the request of the person trying to purchase the building.

Supervisors said Wednesday that they had agreed to seek the bids at the request of Hirdaypal Gill of Grove City, who last month offered $135,000 to buy the township’s building — an offer supervisors accepted at their Feb. 13 meeting.

Chairman Ed Latuska said the township’s agreement to resubmit for bids on the building was contingent upon several conditions, including Gill agreeing to pay fees and costs associated with advertising. Latuska said the township also has placed the $135,000 Gill offered for the building in an escrow account, and will ultimately accept that payment unless a higher bid emerges in this most recent process. The township will open any bids on the building at next month’s regular meeting.

Supervisors said they ultimately listed the former municipal building with Northwood Realty after having rejected two unacceptable bids to purchase it earlier this year, but Gill, who owns the Jiffy Mini Mart at 1701 N. Main St. Extension, asked earlier this month to go through the bidding process again.
