Armagost

After two months of heated meetings, accusations of misconduct and three rounds of interviews, Randy Armagost has been rehired as the boys basketball coach at Moniteau High School.

The Moniteau School Board approved his rehire Monday night on a 5-2 vote.

Armagost, 42, has spent eight seasons as the Warriors coach. But on April 14, the school board voted 6-3 to open his position.

The move became a lightning rod for his supporters and critics alike.

Some parents and community members were pleased the position was opened. They were concerned about Armagost's conduct with his players.

Armagost also had plenty of backers, many of whom came to school board meetings to speak on his behalf.

There were six candidates for the job.

Armagost said he was not told at the board meeting Monday why he was rehired.

"And I didn't ask, either," he said. "I was just so freakin' happy to get it."

Athletic director Jim Metz knew the reason: "The bottom line was he was the best candidate for the position."
