12 to 24 month term ordered
A state prison sentence was handed down Thursday against a man accused of selling heroin in the county.
Donald J. Hutchinson, 25, was sentenced to 12 to 24 months in a state correctional facility, followed by 54 months state probation by Butler County Judge Timothy McCune. He was also ordered to pay a $100 fine.
Hutchinson previously pleaded guilty to felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance on Oct. 19. He was initially charged with two counts of felony drug possession and two counts of felony criminal use of a communication facility following two alleged undercover purchases of heroin in 2016.
Hutchinson was investigated by officers with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics with help from the Butler County Drug Task Force.
In August officers met with a confidential informant who told them that he was in contact with a drug dealer known as “Dutch,” according to a criminal complaint.
The informant on Aug. 22 arranged a meeting at Pullman Plaza with Hutchinson, identified by the informant as “Dutch.” While under surveillance by two officers, the informant met Hutchinson and another man behind the plaza and exchanged cash for an unspecified amount of heroin.
On Aug. 29, police said, the informant arranged another purchase of heroin from Hutchinson while under surveillance near Penn Street.
