Couple riding motorcycle injured in crash with sport utility vehicle
BUTLER TWP — A Butler couple was injured Sunday afternoon when a sport utility vehicle turned in front of their motorcycle on Route 8 north.
Walter Rager Sr., 39, and Deana Rager, 42, both ended up in the hospital with unknown injuries following the crash shortly after 3:30 p.m. near the North Main Street Church of God, Butler Township police said.
A medical helicopter flew Walter Rager, who suffered the more serious injuries, to a Pittsburgh hospital. His condition and Deana Rager’s condition were not known this morning.
Police said Rager was driving the 2007 Honda cycle on Route 8 when a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by James Wilshire, 74, of Clarion turned left from Homewood Drive onto Route 8.
Wilshire told police that he didn’t see the motorcycle. Rager swerved the bike but was unable to avoid the SUV.
Three other witnesses confirmed that Wilshire turned in front of the cycle, police said.
The Ragers were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. Rager was later flown to Allegheny General Hospital.
No other information was available this morning, and police said their investigation continues.
