9 more COVID deaths in county
Nine new COVID-19 deaths of Butler County residents were recorded Thursday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The department's daily report also showed 84 new confirmed cases were added to its total.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 6,231 county residents have tested positive for COVID-19 and 194 residents have died due to the virus.
Over the past two weeks, the county has averaged about 100 new confirmed cases daily, which is a slight increase from the month-long average of 98 new confirmed cases daily.
December also was the worst month in regard to COVID-19 deaths. The county saw 119 of its residents die in December from COVID-19, accounting for roughly 61% of the county's deaths since its first in March.
The state continued to show similar levels. The Department of Health reported 306 new COVID-19 deaths Thursday. The death toll now stands at 15,978.
The state also added 8,992 new confirmed cases to its total, which now stands at 640,325.
Despite the continued increases at both the state and local level, Gov. Tom Wolf has said he planned to allow his advanced mitigation orders to lapse after the Jan. 4 end date.
The state has also continued to issue more doses of both available COVID-19 vaccines.
As of Thursday's update, 115,291 doses have been administered.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health did not issue a report for Friday, but will likely report the data later.
