Machete used in fracas
SUMMIT TWP — Troopers arrested a man accused of threatening his mother and sister with a machete early Tuesday morning at the family's home on Portman Road.
No one was hurt but the alleged victims had to flee their knife-wielding relative and lock themselves in a bedroom until police arrived, according to court documents.
Benjamin L. Lechien, 29, is being held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail. He faces 10 charges in the suspected altercation about 3:30 a.m. No one was hurt.
The suspect's 25-year-old sister told police that soon after her brother returned home in the early morning, he became angry and started yelling. The noise awakened their 54-year-old mother.
Lechien wished his sister dead and threatened his mother, documents said, before going into his bedroom and grabbing a machete.
“(He) stated he was going to kill them,” according to a police affidavit. The defendant struck the kitchen counter with the large knife.
Both women ran into the mother's bedroom and locked the door. That's where police found them after being called to the house. Troopers arrested the defendant without incident.
District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Lechien on two counts each of terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment and disorderly conduct.
A preliminary hearing is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stoughton's office in Chicora.
