CRANBERRY TWP — Sovereign Consulting, an environmental and remediation company, has been awarded a 5-year, $30 million contract with the U.S. Navy in New England and the Mid-Atlantic.

Duane Statzer, company spokesman in Cranberry Township, said Thursday Sovereign has worked with the Navy for a number of years and is happy to get the new contract.

"This is a good feather in our hat because of the good work we do, and we will be doing some of that work in Pennsylvania," Statzer said.

The contract calls for Sovereign to remediate sites on naval property that contain petroleum, oil and lubricants.

In certain instances, systems will be installed for various purposes such as the cleaning of ground water sources. Also Sovereign will maintain and monitor equipment and its results for the Navy.

Statzer said the New Jersey-based company founded in 1999, works on the East and Gulf coasts, and has grown in recent years to more than 200 employees.

He added the company has begun work in the Marcellus Shale drilling industry.
