Raiders boys garner PIAA playoff win

The Seneca Valley boys lacrosse team outscored District 3 champion Hempfield by four goals in the second half and went on to a 12-9 win in a PIAA first-round playoff game Tuesday night at Penn Manor High School in Millersville.

The Raiders trailed 6-5 at halftime.

Will Koontz, Jake McAndrew, Rob Fyock, Andy Hickman and Sean O'Rourke scored two goals each for the Raiders, and Sam Jarrett and Jordan Kelly also scored in the win.

Goalie Brian Bohn tallied 11 saves for the Raiders, who were outshot 34-28.

The Raiders (19-2) will face Sewickley Academy, a 9-5 winner over Conrad Weiser, in a quarterfinal battle Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

Baseball

Blayne McGuirk had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs to power A-C Valley to a 6-3 triumph over Curwensville in a District 9 Class A semifinal game in St. Marys.

Matt Bartley and Reed Terwilliger had two hits and an RBI apiece for the Falcons (11-6), while Cole Smith and Ryan Staab chipped in with two hits apiece.

A-C Valley will face Elk County Catholic, a 2-0 winner over Clarion-Limestone, in the district title game at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Marys.
