A man from Cranberry Township and a man from Pittsburgh are accused of assaulting a man and stealing his gun during the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 30, in Slippery Rock Township, according to state police.

Quincy Deon Hopkins, 18, of Cranberry Township, and Arshad Cyri Romu Bryant, 18, of Pittsburgh, were in a vehicle pulled over shortly after an alleged incident at University Village at Slippery Rock, according to police.

A man at the apartment complex told police he was thrown to the ground and punched by multiple people when a 9 mm handgun was forcefully removed from his waist. The assaulted man was able to give a description of the vehicle they fled in, which police later pulled over, police said.

Police said a firearm reported stolen was found under the back middle seat where Bryant was sitting. A witness told police Hopkins had secured the gun beforehand and was walking around with it Sunday morning.

Bryant was charged with one felony count each of robbery, theft and firearms not to be carried without a license; and one misdemeanor count each of simple assault, disorderly conduct and receiving stolen property, following the incident. Hopkins was charged with felony firearms not to be carried without a license and misdemeanor receiving stolen property.

Bryant and Hopkins are being held in Butler County Prison with $200,000 and $100,000 bails, respectively. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, before District Judge Joseph Nash.
