Steelworkers, ATI extend pact; mull deal

PITTSBURGH — The United Steelworkers and Allegheny Technology Inc. have extended their current contract by a week to give union locals time to review and ratify a reworked version of a four-year contract that rank-and-file union member rejected last week.

The union and ATI announced the tentative deal June 30, the day the last contract expired.

But retired workers urged rank-and-file members to reject the contract, saying it would increase the retirees' medical insurance costs from about $40 per month to $200 per month.
