A Lyndora teenager on probation was arraigned Friday on felony drug charges for having more than 100 stamp bags of suspected heroin and 20 grams of suspected marijuana.

Austin Paul Smith, 18, was nabbed with the alleged drugs May 3 after two Butler County probation officers spotted him riding a bicycle in the Lyndora area.

One of the officers, who supervises Smith, was immediately suspicious, according to a criminal complaint filed by county Detective Tim Fennell, who heads the Butler County Drug Task Force.

The teen previously told the officer that he was going to be at work that day.

The officers later stopped Smith in back of Pullman Park in Butler. He handed over a back pack that contained marijuana, a digital scale and cell phone, documents said. He also admitted he had “dope” in his pocket, police said.

A search turned up a plastic prescription bottle containing 101 glassine bags of suspected heroin. The bags were packaged in 11 bundles with rubber bands.

He was subsequently placed in the Butler County Prison on a probation violation.

At Friday's arraignment, District Judge William Fullerton gave Smith a recognizance bond in the drug case. The defendant was later returned to the jail where he's being held on two probation detainers.
