Butler County's newest Utica Shale natural gas well is just south of Prospect near the intersection of Route 528 and Whitestown Road in Connoquenessing Township. The well is being drilled by XTO Energy. Workers are currently encasing the upper section with cement to protect the well water supplies of nearby farms and homes. The well is immediately adjacent to Camp Lutherlyn, which will benefit financially along with landowners within the pad's drilled radius when the well starts producing sometime next year.
