HARRISBURG — Authorities conducting bus inspections at popular Pennsylvania travel destinations took some vehicles and drivers off the road, citing safety violations.

State police say that 21 motor coaches and five drivers were placed out of service between Dec. 17 and Dec. 23.

Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said Thursday that troopers joined other state and local agencies in the five-day enforcement effort.

Noonan says 218 motor coaches were inspected at destinations including casinos and amusement parks. He says authorities also issued 35 citations and 110 warnings.

PITTSBURGH — A federal judge in Pittsburgh says nearly all of a 516-page agreement for Highmark to take over the West Penn Allegheny Health System should be made public because nearly all the details have already been reported anyway.The document was filed under seal as part of the West Penn hospital network’s antitrust 2009 lawsuit against its larger rival, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Highmark.Since then, Highmark has agreed to a $475 million takeover of West Penn and been dropped from the lawsuit.The judge says the takeover agreement must be released by Jan. 5.
