Richard J. "Sonny" Allen Sr., 74, of Cranberry Township died Wednesday at UPMC Passavant Cranberry Place, Cranberry Township.

Born Jan. 9, 1934, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late John Joseph Allen and the late Catherine Kindell Allen Cafardi.

Mr. Allen was an Army veteran and had been a supervisor with Emerson Electric in Pittsburgh.

He was a longtime member of St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church, Cranberry Township.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann (Fortunato) Allen, who he married Aug. 11, 1956; four children, Catherine Melder and her husband, Ray, of Butler, Richard Allen Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, of Fairfax, Va., Robert Allen and his wife, Denise, of Cranberry Township and Michelle Carrier and her husband, Roscoe, of Moon Township; three brothers, John Allen of New Sewickley Township, Bernard Allen and his wife, Dottie, of Pittsburgh and James Allen and his wife, Toni, of Mount Lebanon; and 11 grandchildren, Ashley, Ray and Ryan Melder, Eric and Elizabeth Allen, Mary, Robert, James and Andrew Halyama and Kacie and RJ Carrier.

<B>ALLEN</B> — Friends of Richard J. "Sonny" Allen Sr., who died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc.</B>, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township.
