Harold F. Callihan
Harold F. Callihan, 92, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Chicora and East Brady, died Saturday in Lakeland from congestive heart failure.
He was born May 12, 1916, in Chicora, the son of Oscar and Ida Dailey Callihan.
He worked at Armco Steel Corp., Butler, now AK Steel, for 33 years, retiring in January 1976. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Lakeland in 1978.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the recipient of two Bronze Stars. He served in the Philippines and was a combat veteran of numerous Pacific campaign battles.
He was a member of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Lakeland and the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church of Chicora.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
His wife of 54 years, Jane P. Preston Callihan, died July 11, 2005. Three brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.
<B>CALLIHAN</B> — There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian burial for Harold F. Callihan, who died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. David D. DeWitt, pastor, officiating. Everyone is to meet at the church. Burial will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.Military honors will be conducted by the Chicora VFW, the Chicora American Legion and the 99 Regional Readiness Command of Coraopolis.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Resurrection Building Fund, 3720 Old Road 37, Lakeland, FL 33813.Arrangements are being handled by <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, Chicora.
