Marian Stoughton

Marian Irene Stoughton, 85, of Gaylard Lane, New Castle, died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at her residence.

Born on July 14, 1923, in Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Susie Holmes.

She worked at Westinghouse Corp., Sharon, during World War II assembling torpedoes. Later, she worked at The Village Inn in Harlansburg. She and her husband operated a farm from 1953 until his passing in 1990.

She was of protestant faith.

She was an avid reader. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years at the Shenango Bowl-A-Way in the Wednesday Morning Ladies League.

She is survived by a son, Charles E. (and wife Beverly) Stoughton of Slippery Rock; and a daughter, H. Gaylene (and husband Steven) Carlson of New Castle.

Also surviving are two grandsons and two granddaughters, Kevin W. (and wife Kelly) Carlson of New Castle, Brandon W. Carlson of New Castle, Erin L. Stoughton (and husband John Stanley) of West Mifflin, and Colby L. Stoughton of Harrisville; a great-granddaughter, Kayla S. Carlson, and a great-grandson, Kolton W. Carlson, all of New Castle; two sisters-in-law, L. Helen Stoughton of Emerald Isle, N.C., and Margaret B. Holmes of Hermitage; a niece, M. Sue Preston of West Middlesex; and a nephew, Michael C. Holmes of Grove City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylard E. Stoughton, who she married Dec. 22, 1949, and who died Dec. 10, 1990; her parents, and a brother, Charles Holmes.

<B>STOUGHTON</B> — Private services and visitation for Marian Irene Stoughton, who died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, will be held on Saturday at <B>SMITH FUNERAL HOME</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, with Pastor Carl Sacrich, pastor of New Covenant Evangelical Church, New Castle, officiating. Interment will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery, Harlansburg.Memorial contributions may be sent to Scott Township Fire Department.
