Donald R. Malarkey

A former resident of Oak Hill Heights in Butler, Donald R. Malarkey, loving husband, father and grandfather, died Sunday in State College.

Born in Meadowlands, Pa., he was the son of Ralph and Roberta Malarkey.

Donald married and is survived by his wife, Louise Nixon Malarkey.

Don received a teaching degree in science from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and later a degree in industrial engineering from Penn State University. That followed his distinguished military career as a first lieutenant in the Navy during the Korean War.

He was the manager of information systems for 25 years at Armco Steel, AK Steel, in Butler and corporate headquarters Middletown Ohio.

Since his retirement, he was a glider pilot, an avid golfer and founder of the Systems Handicap Invitational Tournament.

Don also is survived by his daughters, Dawn and her husband, John Talbot, and Heather and her husband, Alan Sheaffer; granddaughters, Katie Bell of Los Angeles and Hannah and Olivia Sheaffer of Temecula, Calif.; a brother Robert and his wife, Earleen Malarkey, of Florida. A daughter, Cynthia Bell preceded him in death.

<B>MALARKEY</B> — In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions on behalf of Donald R. Malarkey, who died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, may be made to Centre Home Care, 2437 Commercial Blvd., Suite 6. State College, PA 16801. Contributions will be used to buy a Coumadin machine.
