Alfred 'Mike' Rice

Alfred "Mike" Rice, 70, of Perry Highway, Portersville, Muddy Creek Township, died Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Born Nov. 16, 1937, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Clifford and Sara Bauder Rice.

Mike formerly worked for Halstead Industries in Zelienople. Since leaving Halstead, he has been a manufacturer's representative for Convert-A-Ball in Sydney, Neb.

He was an active member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Mike was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Fowler Woods Rice, who he married Dec. 17, 1956; a daughter and son-in-law, LaRae and Don Scheidemantle, and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Debbie Woods, and Davis M. Rice, all of Portersville. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Doug and Betty Jo Felsing and Matthew Scheidemantle; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Katie Felsing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

<B>RICE</B> — Private services for Alfred "Mike" Rice, who died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, will be held at the <B>Marshall Funeral Home</B>, Ellwood City, with Pastor Wayne Wheeler of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the North Sewickley Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
