Fanchon E. Hindman, 87, of Saxonburg died at 1:09 p.m. Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot.

She was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Walter Monroe Umbel and Evelyn Bell Umbel.

She was a former member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.

She had been a 4-H leader for 19 years and had volunteered for Special Olympics, the Red Cross, CORA, the Butler Library Literacy Program, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Humane Society.

She also enjoyed quilting, knitting and reading.

She had been on the Franklin Township Election Board for more than 20 years.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Gloria) Walker of Valencia, Mrs. Wallace (Janis) Kowal of Mesa, Ariz., and Joy Hindman of Saxonburg; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Wanda Spithaler of Butler and Ruth Rea of Evans City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson D. Hindman, who died Feb. 2, 1978; a daughter; two brothers; two sisters; and a grandson.

<B>HINDMAN</B> — Friends of Fanchon E. Hindman, who died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>YOUNG FUNERAL HOME</B>, Butler. The Rev. Ralph Link, retired pastor, will officiate.
