Nellie Druscilla Lewis
Nellie Druscilla (Boyd) Lewis died Tuesday at the Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City. She was 87.
Born in McKeesport, March 10, 1921, she was the daughter of Margaret Payne Boyd and Lorain E. Boyd.
She attended the Park Baptist Church of McKeesport while growing up and the First Baptist Church of McKeesport after her marriage to Jack Warren Lewis.
She was the mother of Jay W. Lewis, an attorney and Presbyterian Church (USA) minister, from Latrobe.
She spent many years in Slippery Rock, where her husband was director of camping of the former Camp Crestview, now Crestfield. During her years in Slippery Rock, she was a member and elder of the Center United Presbyterian Church and served as president of the Presbyterian Women's Association several times. She also served as president of the Slippery Rock Women's Club and aided in other civic programs.
She was employed by the First National Bank of Slippery Rock for a number of years. Following her retirement and her husband's retirement, she moved to Grove City.
During her years in Grove City, she became a member of the Grove City Library Bridge Group and a member of both the Wednesday and Monday Ladies Bridge groups. Being an avid reader, she also belonged to The Book Club, serving as secretary and treasurer and the Women's Literary Club of Grove City, serving as its president during that club's 50th anniversary.
She is survived by her son, the Rev. Jay W. Lewis, Esq. and his wife, Bonnie B. (Boak) Lewis; her grandchildren, Jonathan W. Lewis and Katherine E. Lewis; her sister, Lois Diggins of Whittier, Calif., and her son, Dr. Lee Diggins of San Jose, Calif.; her nephews, Richard and William Boyd of West Newton; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Lewis of Aurora, Colo., and her daughters Sheree and Marci.
<B>LEWIS</B> — A memorial service for Nellie Druscilla (Boyd) Lewis, who died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Dr. James E. Boos officiating.The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
