Saxonburg Borough Council discusses possible noise ordinance
SAXONBURG — Borough council is looking into the possibility of putting together a noise ordinance, something the municipality does not currently have.
According to Steven May, borough manager, there was no particular incident or event that prompted the discussion.
“As an aging community, we’re always posing the question, ‘What’s too loud?’” May said. “Are they playing stereos too late at night? Does there need to be a separate ordinance for day and night? There’s a lot that needs to be worked out.”
May added it could take as long as a year before the borough votes upon a final noise ordinance, if it ever does so.
For Tuesday night’s meeting, May brought in copies of the noise ordinances currently in force in neighboring Clinton and Jefferson townships, which he said the borough might use as reference material in drafting its own ordinance.
“If Clinton and Jefferson have one, we want to get ours as close as possible,” May said.
The borough also plans to apply for Local Share Account grant funding for four municipal projects this year.
One project proposes totally replacing the pavilion at Roebling Park with a larger one that can fit 50 people, double the amount of the current one.
If approved, grants could also fund the addition of four new automated external defibrillators across the township, as well as a Generac power generator for the municipal building’s basement and a new cruiser for the Saxonburg Police Department.
The application deadline for Local Share Account grants is Nov. 30.
