CLEARFIELD TWP — A second teenager has been charged with a felony count of fleeing in connection with a police chase that began when a car was allegedly clocked going 109 mph.

An arrest warrant was issued Monday for Ryan P. Ehrman, 18, of Butler Township, who is accused of driving away in the car after the original 16-year-old driver fled the vehicle on foot May 10.

A trooper ran after and caught the younger suspect. The 16-year-old Lyndora boy is facing fleeing, drugged driving and other charges in juvenile court.

Trooper Michael Torres was running radar around 8:15 p.m. when the boy drove by in a 2017 Ford Fiesta on Route 422 in Clearfield Township, police said. The radar device allegedly showed the car was traveling 109 mph.

The boy eventually turned onto Reed Road, police said, and stopped in a driveway, ending the short vehicle pursuit. But the youth got out of the car and allegedly took off running.

Torres said in his affidavit that as he chased the boy, Ehrman “moved into the driver's seat and fled the scene of the traffic stop in the vehicle.”

Police said the 16-year-old, who they did not identify, was found with what appeared to be marijuana. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results were not available.

Ehrman later admitted that he fled because he “was worried the vehicle would be searched,” according to the affidavit, apparently for evidence the teens had smoked marijuana.

Ehrman is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, a felony, and tampering with physical evidence, a misdemeanor.

The 16-year-old remains at an unspecified juvenile detention facility.

He is charged as a juvenile with felony counts of flight to avoid apprehension and fleeing or attempting to elude police.

Additionally, he is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

The boy is awaiting his pre-adjudication conference, at which he can admit to or deny the charges.
