The bridge on Smith Road in Winfield Township, which carries motorists over Rough Run, is closed until further notice due to “extensive damage” caused by recent floods.

The closure was announced through Winfield Township’s Facebook page Monday morning, Aug. 10.

“With Smith Road, it got overtopped because we got so much rain,” said township Supervisor Matthew Klabnik.

Klabnik said the township is currently waiting for an evaluation from its engineer before it can reopen the bridge.

“Typically when we close (a bridge), we have our engineer come out and evaluate it. That has not yet happened,” Klabnik said. “Once the engineer evaluates it, he decides if we can reopen.”
