Merle J. "Noonie" O'Brien Jr., 78, of Butler passed away Monday at his home.

Born in Butler, March 7, 1931, he was the son of the late Merle J. and Hilda Smith O'Brien Sr.

He was a retired repairman from Armco Butler Works, where he worked for 24 years.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic church, VFW Post 249 of Butler, American Legion Post 117 of Butler and the Elks Lodge of Butler.

He is survived by one son, Thomas R. O'Brien of Butler; one daughter, Cynthia L. O'Brien of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Mrs. Janet Dillmore of Boise, Idaho; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. Knause O'Brien, who passed away July 18, 2008; and by two brothers.

<B>O'BRIEN</B> — There will be no visitation. Funeral services for Merle J. "Noonie" O'Brien Jr., who died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery.
