Elizabeth Jean Weyant

Mrs. Elizabeth Jean Bishop Weyant, 88, of Grove City was taken into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday.

Mrs. Weyant, "Betty," was born August 21, 1921, in Butler to the late Wilbur Bishop and Margaret Holly Bishop.

She also was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Howard, who was taken home in 2001 and by her sister, Ruth Bishop Warren of Texas.

Betty grew up in Grove City, and received the Lord as her Savior at an early age. She was a long time faithful member of First Baptist Church of Grove City.

She graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and while there, she met her husband, Howard. They were married Aug. 30, 1945, and knew God was calling them into missionary service. They served for several years in home missions in New York before becoming a part of Evangelical Baptist Missions.

In 1950 they were called to the West Indies island of Martinique to start a church planting ministry. They spent the next 38 years proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Martinique.

After retirement, they returned home to Grove City and continued to serve the Lord at the First Baptist for many years. God had blessed Betty with many musical talents, including singing, playing the piano, organ and other instruments. These talents were well used on the mission field and at home.

Surviving are her son, Brad and Doretha Weyant of Newnan, Ga.; her daughters, Heather Harper of Pensacola, Fla., and Holly Curry of New York; and her sister, Jane Bishop Acker of Strongsville, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
