Patricia Ruth McMillan, 70, lost her courageous battle against ovarian cancer Tuesday at her home in Kenner, La.

She was born April 9, 1939, in Pittsburgh and moved to Valencia in 1970.

She was a very talented painter, an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and bingo.

She was compassionate about animals and was charitable to many animal welfare organizations.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Linda McMillan Patch and her husband, William, of Kenner, La.; her brother, David Schmitt and his wife, Eileen, of Greensburg; and a sister-in-law, Frances Lewis and her companion, Peter Marcoretta, of Pittsburgh and Ontario, Canada. She was aunt to her dearly loved nieces and nephews and their children; and beloved friend of Bonnie Custead, Joni Knoch, Jill Moser and Deb Wiley.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Ronald C. McMillan; her parents, Dolores Connors Lewis Schmitt and Eugene Lewis; and brothers Eugene Lewis and Robert Schmitt.

Before retiring and moving to Louisiana, she was employed by South Butler County School District.

Many thanks to the friends, teachers and staff for their unwavering support. She was eternally grateful for the generosity of everyone from the South Butler County School District that donated funds to help her rebuild her home that flooded in Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.

The family wishes to thank Dr. William Balash and his staff of Natrona Heights; Dr. Edward Malloy and his incredible staff at the UPMC Cancer Center of Natrona Heights; Dr. Patricia Braly of Metaire, La.; and the many caregivers at Serenity Hospice of New Orleans, La.
