PENN TWP — A woman has died after a tree fell on her Tuesday evening, July 21.

Kimberly Altmire, 64, was outside weeding when a large tree branch fell on her, Scott Gumto, a family friend at the scene, said.

Butler County Emergency Services dispatchers reported around 5:50 p.m. a woman in her 60s was unresponsive and possibly not breathing after a tree fell and pinned her to the ground in the 400 block of Three Degree Road.

Butler Ambulance Service and Penn Township police reported to the scene.

A medical helicopter was initially called to respond to the incident, but was canceled. Penn Township police denied a request for comment at the scene.

The coroner was called to the scene after first responders attempted CPR.

Altmire was declared dead at 5:55 p.m. The cause of death was ruled blunt force trauma to the head, chief deputy coroner John Hanovick said.

The incident occurred hours before severe storms swept into the county.
