Lewis L. Jaffe

Former Butler resident and business man, Lewis L. Jaffe, 86, of Latrobe, Westmoreland County, died Tuesday at Select Specialty Hospital in Latrobe.

Born Oct. 17, 1924, in Butler, he was the son of the late I. Max Jaffe and Fannie Posner Jaffe.

Mr. Jaffe graduated from Butler High School and attended Haverford College and Pennsylvania State University, from which he graduated.

Mr. Jaffe served in the Army Air Force during World War II, with overseas service in Africa.

Upon returning from military service, Mr. Jaffe joined the family business, I.M. Jaffe & Sons, which operated a chain of clothing and department stores in Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan.

After retiring from business, Mr. Jaffe founded Twenty-First Century Networking, an organization dedicated to the advocacy of education reform and community betterment. He also was an active member of the World Futurist Society, working closely with activists around the country to determine how social and technological developments will shape the future.

Mr. Jaffe is survived by daughters, Lynne Jaffe Hartley of North Carolina, and Kim (Jaffe) Gribi and her husband, Kevin, of Michigan; sons, Douglas and Garson Jaffe of Latrobe and Jon Jaffe of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Tim Skolnik, Jordan Jaffe and Ali Gribi; and brothers Arthur Jaffe of Florida and Attorney Norman Jaffe and his wife, Alice, of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jaffe was preceded in death by his sister, Beulah Robins; and brothers Sidney and Richard Jaffe.
