Rodney Miller
Rodney E. Miller, 83, of Butler, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family and dear friends. Born Jan. 30, 1943, he was the son of Frank and Jane (Meddo) Miller. Rod lived a full and meaningful life marked by devotion to his family, pride in his work, service to his country and community, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Rod graduated from Knoch High School and enlisted in the United States Army shortly thereafter. During his service, he spent time in France and Germany, working specifically with electronic communications. On June 16, 1969, he married Beverly Bashline, with whom he built a loving family and a lifetime of memories.
Together, Rod and Beverly had three children, Annette, Michelle and Grant. After returning home from the Army, Rod worked at Armco Steel while also starting Miller Insurance Agency in the basement of his home in 1966. He worked both jobs until the agency grew enough for him to devote himself to it full time. Rod proudly served as an insurance agent for more than 40 years, retiring from Miller Phillips Insurance in 2007.
In retirement, Rod never slowed down. He passionately volunteered at The Lighthouse Foundation for 12 years with his cherished friend, Jack Barkley. When he was not volunteering, Rod enjoyed riding his horses, shooting sporting clays with his Third Thursday Group, sailing his Hobie Cat during Lake Erie vacations to Linwood Park in Vermilion, Ohio, cross-country skiing and above all, operating equipment and maintaining his property. He was also a member of Butler-Victory Lodge No. 272 F&AM.
Rod is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly; his daughter, Michelle Miller Phillips, and her husband, Matthew D. Phillips; his granddaughter, Grace K. Phillips; his grandson, Michael Anthony Clark Phillips; his son, Grant J. Miller, and daughter-in-law, Tara L. Miller; his brother, Frank Miller, and sister-in-law, Nancy Miller; his brother, Jon Miller, and sister-in-law, Jane Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rod loved his grandchildren dearly and was incredibly proud of who they are and all they have accomplished.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Annette Miller Clark; and his son-in-law, Glenn G. Clark.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Rod and Bev’s neighbors, Kurt and Sally Martin, and Jeff and Nancy Link for their continued love and support.
Rod had a great life, and he lived it with energy, loyalty, generosity and love. He will be deeply missed by many, but his legacy will continue in the family, friendships, and community he cherished so dearly.
