Pressley Campbell

Campbell

Pressley L. Campbell, Ph.D., of Butler, Pa., 80, died Friday, June 5, 2026, after a short illness.

He grew up in Butler, PA, and graduated from Butler High School before attending CMU.

He was a faith-filled Christian, a loving spouse, a compassionate father and a dynamic civil engineer. His perfect day was a round of golf, Bible study, playing “Chase the Child,” and attending LSU Baseball or Lady Tiger Basketball.

Press was not a perfect man, but he was perfect for us. Press loved the Lord and became a Bible scholar who lived his faith daily. He was never afraid to boldly go or do God’s bidding. With Press’s willing heart, no job was too menial, and no person was too unimportant. Because of his willingness, lives and families were changed forever. As an uplifting husband, father and grandfather, Press instilled in us a knowledge of self-worth and of personal value.

After only knowing him for seven days, God stood him up in church and told me to marry him. We were married six weeks later. He was kind and understanding, slow to anger and quick to forgive, and always generous with his time and efforts. At 67, God sent us our three great-grandchildren to raise. Press worked tirelessly to make sure that they were given the opportunity to grow and thrive. We joyfully adopted them 10 years ago and he cheered on their every accomplishment. Press lived to see each of them accept Jesus as their Savior and begin to live their own personal “Walk with God.”

Press is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with BS, master’s and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering. He was a 45-year member of the ASCE and was licensed to work in over 22 states. He designed and implemented the storage of the U.S. Strategic Oil Reserves in the salt domes of south Louisiana.

As one of the first environmental engineers in the country, he was instrumental in cleanup and storage of hazardous waste and received commendations from our federal government and from several states. Press had such a strong walk with God, such a love for family and friends and such a wonderful work ethic. We shall miss him.

Pressley is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Ann Stevens Campbell; children, Destiny Fagane, Aiden and Landon Strief, of Baton Rouge; Matthew and Maggie Ehrman, of New Castle; Lynn Fickle Jr., of Dallas, and Tracy and Nick Garay, of Huntsville, AL; his ever faithful, Breck Fickle; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth and Irene Campbell, of Bryn Mahr, PA, James Campbell of Butler, PA, and George Pernacano, of Pittsburgh.

He is also survived by Roland Jr. and Frances Stevens, Michael and Dona Stevens, William Stevens, all of Baton Rouge, and Jane Hoyt of Houston, Texas.; and his best buds, Frank and Sandy Phillips, John Kora and Phillipe Veeters.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ira Pressley and Madge Miller Campbell, of Butler, PA; son, Christopher J. Fickle; and siblings, Lois Pernacano, Joann and Alex Pavlin, Betty and Lyle Schmidt, Margie Campbell and John Hoyt.

Visitation, services, and burial were held at Greenoaks Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA. Honorary pallbearers were his small group class and Bible study group.
