Petrolia man charged with threatening, grabbing man by neck

A Petrolia man faces criminal charges after grabbing an individual by the neck and threatening to kill him.

State police arrested Robert James Wilhelm, 48, on June 22 after he admitted to the physical altercation.

According to an affidavit in the case, troopers responded to the 200 block of Hilliard Road in Washington Township after Wilhelm took a vehicle registered in the name of the resident while she was at church.

After Wilhelm returned to the residence, he grabbed a man there by the neck with one hand and pushed him up against a porch railing, the affidavit said. The man told state police Wilhelm then said he was “going to kill him” while his hand was still around the man’s throat. The man Wilhelm assaulted had red marks and scratches on his neck and back from the incident, the affidavit said.

Wilhelm then left the scene and drove away in the same vehicle, according to the police. The affidavit said state police later talked to Wilhelm over the phone, who admitted the altercation had occurred. He was then arrested.

Wilhelm posted bail and faces charges of simple assault and making terroristic threats against an individual. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
