Joy Ann Grossman
Joy Ann (Cratty) Grossman, 95, of Scott Township, Pa., passed Thursday, June 11, 2026, at AHN Grove City.
She was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Butler County, to Arthur Warren and Helen Grace (Martsolf) Cratty. She grew up on the family farm, and there she developed a strong work ethic and competitive spirit.
Joy Ann met Don “Sonny” Grossman, the love of her life, at Etna Springs Skating Rink. She married Maurice Donald “Sonny” Grossman on Dec. 9, 1949. After 61 years of marriage, Sonny preceded Joy in death on Jan. 25, 2011.
Joy graduated top of her class from Butler High School in 1948. She continued her schooling at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa.
After getting married, Joy and Sonny bought a 120-acre farm (formerly Turner Farm) in Harlansburg, Pa. They raised Black Angus, Hereford cattle, pigs, chickens and their four children.
In 1965 to 1966, Joy attended the New Castle Business College. Afterward, she was employed by HR Block for 35 years as an expert tax preparer and manager. Later, Joy became the office supervisor at Sears.
Joy was of the Baptist faith. She greatly enjoyed working on the farm and spending time in her garden.
Survivors include her children, Joy E. Whitmire (William), of Harlansburg, Pa., James M. Grossman (Gail), of Polk, Pa., and Bradley L. Grossman (Marilyn), of Greenville, Ga.; brother, Ronald Moyer (Carolyn), of Harmony; six grandchildren, Lisa Grossman, Lorraine Grossman (Robert Webb), James Grossman II (Amber), Jennifer M. Hutcherson (Kevin), Julie Ketzel (Phillip) and Ryan Fennick (Desiree); eight great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joy was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Jacobs Wilkinson; brother, Arthur W. “Bud” Cratty Jr.; son, Dennis Arthur Grossman; and granddaughter, Rhonda L. Eppinger.
GROSSMAN — The family of Joy Ann (Cratty) Grossman, who died Thursday, June 11, 2026, will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Marshall officiating.
Interment will follow at Unity Baptist Cemetery in Harlansburg.
