Doris “Maggie” (Sweeney) Cooper, 91, of Chicora, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Quality Life Services — Sugar Creek, after an extended illness.

Born Feb. 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William and Edith (Norris) Sweeney.

She was married to Ellis Cooper on Dec. 5, 1959, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 2014.

After graduating from the former Bruin High School, in her early years, she worked for the Myers family at their store in Bruin, which she loved and still talked about decades later.

Over the years, Doris enjoyed many trips to various beaches with her family and friends, and she especially enjoyed the winters she and Coop spent at Little Gasparilla Island in Florida. She bowled with various leagues and was a member of the Chicora Women of the Moose for many years. Doris also loved a good shopping trip and having lunch with her girlfriends.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Claudia and Steven Fischer, of Chicora; granddaughter, Trista (Travis) Fischer, of Butler; grandson, Dustin (Alisha) Marshall, of Perryville; sister, Pat (Thomas) Brown, of Butler; and brother, Larry Sweeney, also of Butler. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Gloria Sweeney, of Petrolia, and Glenda Sweeney, of Cadagon; and a brother-in-law, Owen (Carolyn) Cooper, of Madison, Ala. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Henry, Nora, Blaze, Chase and Ashlyn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Frank, George and John Sweeney; a stepbrother, Roy Cook; brothers- and sisters-in-laws, Robert and Shirley Cooper and Sharon and Bonnie Cooper.

COOPER — Friends of Doris “Maggie” (Sweeney) Cooper, who died Tuesday, June 2, 2026, were received at BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Parker, on Friday, June 5, with a graveside service at the Perryville Cemetery.
