Thank you, Dr. Adalja

These bashings of Dr. Adalja are unwarranted. He has never postured in the manner perceived by his detractors. Lorie, for instance, aimlessly argues that those who have sex should be mature and responsible enough to prevent unwanted pregnancy, yet in the same breath she disingenuously asserts that family planning resources shouldn't be allocated to those who wish to be responsible and mature enough to learn about and use them.

Property owners who don't have school age children nevertheless pay taxes that fund schools, because they benefit indirectly by keeping the upcoming generation educated and socially structured. Similarly, we all gain in well-being when we prevent pregnancies to accidental parents do not have the resources to parent properly. What we need to limit is unwanted pregnancy, not access to birth control and education about how the human species reproduces.

Dr. Amalja's views are among the most informed and best expressed. He's probably the most literate person in the Eagle's editorial sections, which is probably why he gets published so much (it's not as if these aren't paid). It seems all of Dr. Adalja's critics take positions against him based on misinterpretation. Obviously, they aren't endowed with his critical thinking and analysis skills.
