Connoquenessing Twp. tables roof replacement bid
CONNOQUENESSING TWP — With the township municipal building roof in need of replacement, supervisors were left stumped over whether to accept the only bid at a much higher cost than anticipated.
The sole bid from Carnegie-based Arkadia Contracting was opened at a supervisors meeting Wednesday, June 3. The project featured a base bid for the replacement, as well as two alternates for additional work, including replacing gutters and downspouts.
However, the bid cost exceeded expectations, with the base bid alone set at $123,820. With alternates, the cost ballooned to $207,225.
Supervisors ultimately decided to table the bid to give themselves time to review options.
“At this point, I’d like to review that a little further before we make any decisions. It’s quite a hefty amount. Obviously, we know we need to replace the roof but we need time to really digest that information and consider what we’re going to do,” Supervisor Angela Fleeger said.
Work began to replace the roof in March when the supervisors hired LSSE, the township’s engineering firm, to study the building and create a cost estimate. Township resident Dave Dreher previously said a ceiling tile fell during or shortly after the February meeting, prompting the move.
