Butler Township Planning Commission approves Scooter’s Coffee

BUTLER TWP. — Butler Township Planning Commission approved construction of Scooter’s Coffee on New Castle Road during its meeting on Tuesday, June 2.

Scooter’s is a drive-thru only coffeehouse chain that sells coffee, smoothies, sodas, milkshakes, pastries, breakfast items and more.

The plans look to open the 600 square foot coffee shop on a vacant lot in Greenwood Plaza. Pending land development approvals, developers and area building permits, Scooter’s aims to break ground this year.

The vacant lot sits near a busy intersection where New Castle Road meets Route 356. Yet Scooter’s corporate is not anticipating any significant increases to traffic or wait times other than its grand opening, based on data collected from other national locations.

“That's one of their main selling points for their coffee shop is the speed in which they can get people through,” Gateway Engineering representative Josiah Hefler said during the meeting.

He added most of the food made by Scooter’s is prepackaged, so customers will not have to worry about long cooking times.

This would be the first franchise location in Pennsylvania.

Scooter’s Coffee was co-founded in 1998 in Bellevue, Nebraska, by Don and Linda Eckles with the goal of providing high-quality drinks at low wait times. According to a news release in February 2026, Scooter’s Coffee has 900 stores nationwide.

The next Butler Township Board of Commissioners Meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. June 15. The next planning commission meeting is set for 6 p.m. July 7.
