The Butler County District Attorney's Office withdrew charges against a Pittsburgh man who allegedly threw boiling water at two people during a break-in at a Wednesday morning, Oct. 14, preliminary hearing.

Walid Kourami, 34, was charged Sept. 11 with multiple trespass and assault-related charges after an alleged incident the previous day. The district attorney’s office withdrew the charges without prejudice, which means the charges may be refiled at a later date.

According to a criminal complaint, police were dispatched Sept. 10 to a home in the 22000 block of Route 19 where a man said Kourami assaulted him, broke several windows and refused to leave his home.

The man had a severe cut above his right eye and extensive burns to his face, chest, torso and arms. Police said Kourami struck him with a pot of boiling water. He was flown to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. The water also allegedly splashed a nearby woman, who had moderate burns on her left arm.

When police found Kourami they said he had a cut on his right hand and identified himself as the other person involved.

He explained to officers the incident occurred because Kourami believed his girlfriend was cheating on him with the man. She called Kourami to pick her up and he believed she might have been in danger, he said. Kourami took an Uber, a ride share platform, from Pittsburgh to the man’s home, acording to an affidavit in the case.

The woman’s cellphone contained text messages between her and Kourami in which she provided his address to Kourami, according to the affidavit.

Kourami was represented by attorney Mark Adams.
