Alice Short

Short

Alice Beatrice (Hall) Short, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2026, under the care of Concordia. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, friendship and faith.

Alice was married to Samuel H. Short Sr. for 60 wonderful years. She was the loving mother of Sam Jr. (Elizabeth), of Butler, Donna Heusey (Rick), of Butler, and Susan Rogers, of Winnabow, N.C. She cherished her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Clyde A. and Dorothy Hall; her brothers, Leroy, Clyde and Don Hall; and her in-laws, Thomas Short Sr. (Phyllis), Kaye Brown and Bob White.

A 1961 graduate of Zelienople High School, Alice worked at the News Record before becoming a homemaker. She later worked in the Seneca Valley High School cafeteria while building her well-loved craft business, Alice’s Santa Shoppe, known for her handmade Santas.

Alice treasured lifelong friendships, including those formed in her one-room schoolhouse. She enjoyed more than 50 years with the Middle Lancaster neighborhood card club and loved playing dominoes with her church friends.

A woman of deep faith, Alice was a longtime member of Grace Church of Harmony. She will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, devotion to family and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
