Violet ‘Hap’ Wetzel
Violet R. “Hap” Wetzel, 95, of Cabot, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Magnolia Place of Saxonburg.
Born May 9, 1931, in Cabot, she was the last of 11 children of the late Edward Wetzel and Edna Jahnig Wetzel.
Hap graduated from Winfield-Clinton High School in 1950. She worked at Butler County Mushroom Farm for 43 years. Starting as a mushroom picker, Hap held several different positions including operating a forklift to load the big trucks. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Saxonburg. In her younger years, Hap enjoyed square dancing and traveling. Later in life, she found joy in bird watching.
Surviving are her nephew, Bruce (Lisa) Golojuh, of Sarver; nieces, Debbie (Dave) Karastury, of Cabot, and their children, Derek and Melissa Karastury, and Denise (George) Pogue, of Butler, and their children, Stephanie and Josh Pogue; and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her seven sisters, Elizabeth Young, Delsie (Clarke) Montgomery, Twila (George) Fink, Leonice (Earl) Cypher, Alda (Don) Barr, Jean Wetzel and June (Nick) Golojuh; and three brothers, Wilfred (Madeline) Wetzel, Irving Wetzel and Earl (Maxine) Wetzel.
WETZEL — Friends of Violet R. “Hap” Wetzel, who died Sunday, May 31, 2026, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at FOX FUNERAL HOME, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Jeannine Sanford officiating.
Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park.
