William ‘Bill’ Bennett Jr.

Bennett

William “Bill” T. Bennett Jr., 88, of Butler, passed away peacefully at Newhaven Court, in Butler, on Friday evening, May 29, 2026.

A proud, lifelong resident of Butler, Bill was born on March 8, 1938, in Butler, son of the late William T. Bennett Sr. and Erla (Gregg) Sholtis.

Bill attended Butler High School and worked for the Glaziers Union. He eventually opened his own glass business in Butler. He was a hard worker and was known for his attention to detail and meticulous work. In his over-50-year career, he installed countless doors, windows, storefronts and customized projects throughout the area.

He married Marcia Lee Marburger on Feb. 10, 1956. They were married for 64 years, until her death on July 1, 2020.

Bill loved mowing his lawn with his John Deere tractor and working outside. He enjoyed family history, reminiscing about the good old days, listening to old country music and cars. In his earlier years, he looked forward to the many yearly trips to Florida with family and friends to vacation and attend the Daytona 500. He spoke often of the many good times that were had there.

He is survived by his two daughters, Colby (Dick) Smith, of Bradford Woods, Pa., and Carrie (Bill) Minton, of Butler; grandchildren, Dustin (Erin) Byerly, Cayce Smith, Carly (Sean) Barry and Bennett (Lauren) Porter; six great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Blessed and Jahsiah Byerly, Jack, Luke and Austin Barry and Tate Porter, and one on the way, baby Porter.

He is also survived by his sister, Nancy (Richard) Bowser and nephew, Kenneth Bowser, of Lorain, Ohio; several cousins; and his dear friends and loyal weekly visitors, Dan Porter and Carlos Albert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his stepfather, George Sholtis; and nephew, Kevin Bowser.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Newhaven Court for their kindness and support during the past year. The care and kind words from the staff, as well as the wonderful residents and their families, will never be forgotten. Sincere appreciation is also conveyed to the VNA nurses and aides during Bill’s final days.

Additional thanks go out to those friends and family that kept in touch by calling, texting, sending cards or helping out in any way. You are a blessing.
