Butler golf courses: 5 fun par-3s throughout the county you have to try
Not every hole needs to be a challenge. Some can remind you of why you love — or maybe just tolerate, if it’s that kind of day — the game.
And par-3s on a golf course aren’t just a short shot to the flag. They can also provide entertainment and a thrill.
Here are five fun par-3s at some of Butler County’s golf courses, according to those who know them well:
No. 3, 148 yards: Golfers find trouble on either side of the green.
“There’s a pond on the left and an out-of-bounds fence on the right,” course owner Ken Macadaeg said.
No. 18, 175 yards: Conley’s “signature hole.”
“A narrow window to place your tee shot with trees and a bunker on the right, with some deception in the green,” coach general manager Josh DeNinno said. “It’s a tough, fun challenge to end a round.”
No. 15, 230 yards: Go ahead and take the scenic route.
“It kinda hits out of the chute,” course general manager Terry Rottman said. “It’s kind of long. From the white tees, it’ll play between 200 and 230 (yards). It’s just kinda like a nice scene par-3.”
No. 8 West, 131 yards: This hole includes a short island green surrounded by water.
“There’s trees behind the green,” course owner Eric Krenitsky said. “It’s picturesque and is our signature hole.”
No. 9, 169 yards: It’s an inviting hole for an ace, a great way to finish the front nine. It’s an uphill line with out of bounds on the left and lots of trees on the right, according to the course’s website.
“Terrific front-side finishing hole,” DeNinno said.
