Bertha Schaub
Bertha Elizabeth (Zahn) Schaub, 104, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Born in New Sewickley Township on March 31, 1922, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Householder) Zahn.
Bertha was a homemaker extraordinaire, cooking and canning, but her real passion was sewing, knitting, quilting and crocheting. When her children entered their later school years, she turned this passion into a career as a seamstress and presser, working for Basilon Dry Cleaners, Polochak’s Laundromat and Dry Cleaners and Northgate Dry Cleaners, all in the Zelienople area. Once her children were all gone from the house, she began doing sewing/tailoring for numerous clientele, working at home.
Bertha also loved sports and, along with her husband, Sam, was a fixture at her children’s sporting events through their early years and throughout high school and college.
Bertha was a lifelong member of Burry’s Church, where she taught and played piano in the beginner’s department for many, many years.
Bertha is survived by her daughter, Nancy (James) Welch, of Morganton, N.C.; sons, Dale (Debbie) Schaub, of Marietta, Ga., Kenneth (Debbie) Schaub, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Robert (Marlene) Schaub, of New Sewickley Township; nine grandchildren, Kyle (Erin) Welch, Lindsay (Rippy) Saling, Matthew (Laurie) Schaub, Nikki (Chris) George, Bekah (James Smock) Schaub, Christi Meyer, Christopher (Jessica) Schaub, Kevin (Sara) Schaub and Kaitlyn (Joe) Badaczewski; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 64 years, Samuel, and her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Viola (Phillip) Blinn; and brother and sister-in-law, Russell (Virginia) Zahn.
