The Libertarian Party of Butler County and the Butler County Republican Committee are working together to hold a peaceful demonstration supporting Harrisville Councilwoman Mary Ann Hughes.

The rally will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 11, and take place outside of the borough office at 117 S. Main St. The rally is intended to show support Hughes’ right to speak out against the borough council.

A borough council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Morgen Mogus, chairman of the county Libertarian Party, said in a release the rally is in response to a number of perceived grievances, such as Hughes’ council seat being nearly filled and her being placed in handcuffs and removed from a meeting.

“This council of wannabe kings needs accountability,” he said in the release.
