North Catholic team wins Butler County Envirothon

A team from North Catholic High School took first place in the annual Butler County Envirothon, an environmental education-themed competition held Tuesday, April 28, at Alameda Park in Butler.

Six different high schools across Butler County sent teams of five students each to compete in the event. The winning team was one of two different North Catholic teams taking part. Karns City, Seneca Valley, Mars, Moniteau and Butler also competed.

North Catholic’s winning team, nicknamed the “Hellbenders,” consisted of Margaret Totin, 12th grade; Lillian Best, 12th grade; Olivia Nelson, 11th grade; Julia Martins, 11th grade; and Claire Elliott, 11th grade.

Students competed in five events: aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and an annual “current issues” event that changes each year.

Karns City Area Junior/Senior High School finished second, while one of the Seneca Valley teams took third.
