Main Street paving set

Work will start May 16

Motorists using Main Street through Butler will have to deal with some inconveniences starting later this month, but will be getting a smooth new surface.

The work by Folino Construction is scheduled to start May 16 and run through July 29. The contract is for $734,000.

The work will be done between Monday evenings starting at 6:30 and Friday mornings at 7:30.

The road will be paved from the General Butler Bridge to Penn Street.

Two lanes of traffic — one each way — will be open to the public at all times.

Except for Jefferson and Cunningham streets, all side roads in the construction zone will be closed during construction hours.

Also during work hours, there will be no on-street parking, and any vehicles parked in work zones will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Flaggers and police officers will control intersections if needed.

Mayor Tom Donaldson is excited for how Main Street will look with the 100th anniversary of the city of Butler coming up.

“It’s great that we’re getting paved this year,” he said. “We’re going to be able to have a good, clean look in the downtown.”

“We hope that everybody will understand, with the inconveniences overnight,” Donaldson said.

He also expressed hope that once the paving is done, no utility work will damage the look of the street.

“We’re hopeful they fix all the potential problems, so when the job is done we don’t have any paving cuts,” he said.
