John Campbell
John Campbell, of Saxonburg, born Sept. 13, 1938, in Sewickley, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026.
He graduated from Ambridge High School. John attended Geneva College and became a piping designer. He worked for Salvucci Engineers in Pittsburgh and General Dynamics Electric Boat, working on nuclear submarines in Groton, Conn. He was in the Army Reserve.
He loved watching Pittsburgh sports — Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and Pitt, and traveling to see them in different cities. John enjoyed running, hiking/camping with his friends, deer hunting, collecting guns, going to local breweries, eating North Carolina barbecue and fish sandwiches and put “ketchup on everything.” He loved exercising his many pets, including dogs, cats and hermit crabs. He traveled on cruises to Russia and the Caribbean, Delaware beaches and many trips to Disney.
John bought a house near his daughter in Mebane, N.C., in 2019, so he could escape the cold Pennsylvania winters. He enjoyed teasing his grandchildren and watching them play sports, including soccer, dance and golf. John recently vacationed around North Carolina, going to the Outer Banks, Topsail Island, Bald Head Island, Wilmington and Asheville. He attended many North Carolina sporting events to see Pitt football play North Carolina State, University of North Carolina and Duke, watched the Penguins play the Carolina Hurricanes, and went with his daughter to a Pitt vs. Duke basketball game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
John was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Campbell; daughter, Kristin (Ben) Titus; and grandchildren, Xavier and Violet.
Burial will be at St. James Cemetery, Sewickley, Pa.
A celebration of life is planned for summer 2026.
Arrangements are by McClure Funeral Service, Mebane, N.C.
