Former BlueSox players drafted
Five former members of the Butler BlueSox were selected in the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Saturday.
It was a record-setting day for the BlueSox, who had a total three players drafted over the first four years of the franchise’s existence.
Following is information capsules for each player.
Eric Dorsch Kent State, RHP
Draft: Picked in the 21st round and 645th overall by the Cincinnati Reds.
BlueSox notes: The 6-foot-7, 240-pound North Allegheny graduate and Gibsonia native arrived late to the BlueSox last season after helping the Golden Flashes to the College World Series. He fanned 14 batters in 13 2-3 innings of work.
College notes: He recorded 47 strikeouts in 32 1-3 innings with a 3.62 ERA and made three saves for Kent State this season as a redshirt sophomore.
Kyle Petty California (Pa.), Utility
Draft: Taken in the 23rd round and 687th overall by the Seattle Mariners.
BlueSox notes: Petty was a regular in the Butler lineup last season and set the BlueSox record with 49 RBIs. He also hit .310 with eight homers, five doubles, five triples and 18 stolen bases.
College notes: Named the PSAC West Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award, given to the nation’s top player in Division II baseball, after hitting .416 with six home runs, 12 doubles, eight triples, 48 RBIs and 37 steals.
George Roberts Kent State, 1B
Draft: Selected in the 26th round and 780th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
BlueSox notes: Joined Butler midway through last season following Kent State’s run to the College World Series, but hit .410 with seven homers, nine doubles and 27 runs scored in 30 games.
College notes: Named the MAC Player of the Year in 2012 and was on the All-MAC first team in 2013 after recovering from an early-season injury.
Tyler Sciacca Villanova, SS
Draft: Picked in the 27th round, 798th overall by the Chicago Cubs.
BlueSox notes: Was a Prospect League All-Star during the 2010 season. He hit .287 with nine doubles and 24 RBIs, while provided reliable defense at shortstop.
College notes: Hit .307 with two homers, two triples and led the team with 18 doubles and 36 RBIs.
Logan Uxa Arkansas State, OF/1B
Draft: Taken in the 32nd round and 975th overall by the Cincinnati Reds.
BlueSox notes: Played for Butler in 2010 and holds the franchise record for walks in a season with 36. He hit .248 with 12 doubles and 22 RBIs in 45 games.
College notes: Started 117 consecutive games for the RedWolves and hit .268 with 13 doubles and three homers this season.
