Helen M. Mays, 89, formerly of American Avenue, died Monday at Sunnyview Home.

Born April 13, 1919, in Butler, she was a daughter of James and Ethel (Myers) Burke.

She was a homemaker and had worked at Butler Memorial Hospital in the maternity unit for 20 years until her retirement in 1979.

Mrs. Mays was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and was a life member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Butler Court.

Helen enjoyed gardening, playing cards at the Tanglewood Senior Center and spending time with her family.

Surviving are a son, Jack M. Graham and his wife, Denise, of Grove City; two daughters, Nance L. Graham of Butler and Mrs. Thomas (Patty) Hayden of West Sunbury; a stepdaughter, Carol Mays of Fenelton; a stepson, Earl R. "Bud" Mays and his wife, Brigitte, of York; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Burke of New Port Richey, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Mays, who died in 1985; her first husband, Martin Graham, who died in 1969; and a daughter, Margaret Hamm.

Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N.
