'Spokeswoman' for senior citizens takes job at BC3

The unofficial spokeswoman for Butler County's senior citizens has moved on.

Michelle Jamieson, who has been with the Butler County Area Agency on Aging since 1995, took a new job at Butler County Community College.

At the agency Jamieson, formerly Michelle Zanicky, officially held the title "information specialist."

But seniors will recall her as the as the upbeat spokeswoman from the agency's "Senior Voice" radio show and as the editor of the Senior Express newsletter.

Jamieson also organized the annual Senior Health and Information Fair at Clearview Mall in Center Township, as well as other senior-care events, such as flu shot clinics. She also visited with seniors in town meetings while writing the county's four-year plans.

"This was a difficult decision because I loved my job," Jamieson said. "I loved being able to help seniors be aware of the programs out there and take advantage of them and improve their quality of life.

"But this was a chance for me to give something back to the college. It's a chance I never thought I would get."

Jamieson, who received her associate's degree from Butler County Community College, now is director of alumni programming and alumni campaigns.

She has agreed to assist the agency on aging with the newsletter and comprehensive plan on a consultant basis until her replacement is hired.
