BUTLER TWP - Butler County Community College is offering a unique series of courses that will lead to a non-credit certificate of achievement in floral design.

Students can register to take individual courses or they can pursue the certificate.

To receive the certificate, students must take three required courses and two elective courses. Required courses are basic floral design, intermediate floral design and advanced floral design. Elective courses include holiday Christmas swag, graceful harvest swag, florist bows and bow making, trendy topiaries and facts and tips for the professional florist.

All certificate candidates will be required to create and display a final design project. Classes will be at BC3's main campus.

CENTER TWP - A garage and bake sale next weekend will benefit a 29-year-old former North Washington woman who is recovering from a double lung transplant.Michelle Fleeger, now of Ellwood City, has sarcoidosis, a disease with a suffocating impact caused by the buildup of scar tissue. Fleeger, whose maiden name was Michelle Steiner, is married with two children.Proceeds from the sale, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. next Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 483 West Sunbury Road, will help with medical expenses.Fleeger underwent the 12-hour operation on Aug. 14.
